Ian Tweedy. 70 Zeppelins
2009
Catalogue of the exhibition at Ex3 Centre for Contemporary Art in Florence, opened in October 2009. Through his works, the American artist Ian Tweedy leads the visitor to question the past and war, “not war itself, in its inhuman brutality, in its irrational ferocity, but the narrative of war”. The booklet presents Tweedy’s latest works: “70 Zeppelins” (seventy graphic elaborations that have as their subject the iconic airship that has become a symbol of discovery and progress) and the “Debris” series, assemblages and collages characterised by a strong sense of decadence and uncertainty exacerbated by the arrangement of the works on the walls painted in oblique bands, in black and white, forming part of the installation “The Departed in Dazzle”, the central project of the exhibition.
