Francesco Gennari. Drawings Visual Essays Self-Portraits
2020
Born in Pesaro in 1973, Francesco Gennari is one of the most important artists of his generation. In his work, in which the different experiences of Metaphysics and Minimalism find a point of contact, he gives shape to personal perceptions and moods by creating sculptures, drawings as representations of mental landscapes and photographs of himself. A meticulous and poetic path, a ‘subtle investigation’, of which self-representation constitutes a fundamental aspect. In Gennari’s practice, materials are of great importance: whether traditional sculpture materials or those in common use, organic or industrial, they become the expression of a precise psychological condition, varying in relation to different moments of the day, to more or less recurring events or actions. The solo exhibition at GAMeC recounts this fluid and eclectic dimension of the artist’s work, giving life to a mutable landscape, in form and materials, capable of conveying the complexity of Gennari’s research on the theme of self-representation.
The catalogue completes the exhibition with essays dedicated to the theme of self-representation and drawing: Io sono Francesco Gennari (I am Francesco Gennari) by Lorenzo Giusti, Quando io non sono io (When I am not I) by Mouna Mekouar, You travel all alone? Hushnow, don’t explain by Petter Snare.
